I am an experienced criminal defense attorney and personal injury attorney who practices at both the trial and appellate levels. My appellate practice includes all state and federal courts throughout southeastern Virginia.
I handle all types of criminal cases including minor traffic matters, driving under the influence (DUI), shoplifting, petty theft, grand theft, burglary, drug cases, domestic violence, assault and battery, robbery, arson, solicitation, sexual assault, molestation, homicide, record clearing (expungement), probation violations, and, pretty much everything else.
I also handle many DUI and other types of cases for people who are residents of other states who had the misfortune to get arrested while they were visiting the area. If an attorney is retained, many of these cases can be resolved without the client having to return to Virginia for court appearances or even to serve a sentence. I also help people who are injured in accidents get fair compensation (money damages) for their injuries, including pain and suffering.
In the personal injury area, I do not charge by the hour but get paid a percentage of the recovery if and when I recover money from the responsible party (or from their insurance) for my client. The percentage varies depending on the circumstances. For criminal and traffic cases (at the trial level), I usually charge a flat fee (which varies depending on the type and complexity of the case). The flat fee covers most legal services up to the time of trial and the flat fee must be paid in full before I will appear in court as your attorney.
Most criminal cases can be settled before trial. If your case settles before trial, the flat fee is the total attorney fee. If, however, the case has to go to trial, additional attorney’s fees are charged depending on the number of appearances on the trial calendar and on the length of the trial. The fees I charge, while not inexpensive, are pretty reasonable compared to most attorneys.
For appeals, I charge by the hour.
I do accept cash, checks and direct credit card payments.
